Membership*

Applications for full membership of the Australian Institute of Emergency Services will be considered from persons who are at least 18 years of age and who:

  • Are members of a permanent emergency service or
  • Are volunteer members of emergency or associated services, including the Australian Defence Force or
  • Admission as a member may be granted if in the opinion of the General Council the applicant meets all other conditions of membership and passes such examination and/or other tests as required by Council.
Applications will also be considered from those who may not meet this criteria for one of our classes of affiliate membership. Details of affiliate membership are outlined below.

What Does Membership Cost

In these times of high costs of living and working, and as a service to our members, Institute fees are maintained as low as possible so as not to be a financial disincentive.
Nomination Fee: $20
Members: $50
Fellows: $60
Corporate Subscription: $250
Affiliate Membership: $50

Applications for Membership

We welcome applications from anyone involved in the Emergency Services at home or abroad.

Applications for membership can be made by either completing our on-line membership form or printing and submitting a paper form.

Completed paper applications are to be forwarded to the Registrar of the Division of the Institute in the State or Territory that represents the area in which the applicant or business reside. Applications made using our on-line form will be sent automatically to the Registrar nominated on the form when the form is submitted.

*Please Note:
The National Board of the Institute at their meeting in April 2010 commenced proceedings to change some of the constitutional requirements for membership. These changes involved reducing the age of membership from 21 years to 18 years and removing the minimum service requirement. Until these changes have taken effect all applications for membership from people 18 - 21 years of age and/or whose service with an emergency services organisation is less than 2 years (full time) or 4 years (volunteer) will be granted Associate Membership. Once these changes have been formalised their membership status will be automatically upgraded to that of Full Member. The fee structure for both classes of membership are the same.
